Last year, Aristocrat turned heads at just about every gaming expo with displays for its new Walking Dead poker machine. Now, the game has finally hit gaming floors and it is expected to be a huge hit at casinos. The Walking Dead is one of the most revered television shows that has ever aired. The show was won over a dozen awards and it is currently the #1 show among 18- to 49-year-olds.
Every episode, millions of viewers around the world tune in. Aristocrat has turned the popular program into a poker machine, where it ‘pays to play dead’. The Walking Dead pokie features content from the show, including video clips and images. Equipped with the iChair, the poker machine offers a surround sound experience that completely immerses the character.
The title will certainly appeal to fans of the television series, and even poker machine players that have not watched the series will appreciate all of the innovative gaming features. By the beginning of 2014, land-based casinos placed orders for 800 Walking Dead poker machines.
It has been Aristocrat’s biggest debut thus far. The only other game to come close was the release of Aristocrat’s Tarzan game, but it did not reach 800 orders until six months after the game was launched. “We have designed a game that will appeal to the show's audience and players will be excited to find all of their favorite characters here," says Dallas Orchard, Aristocrat’s Vice President of Gaming Operations.
"Working with AMC has been phenomenal, and we look forward to continuing our relationship." The Walking Dead slot machine is available at over a dozen casinos across the United States. There is no word yet on when the game will make its way to Australia, Europe and Asia – but international operators have expressed interest in getting the machine on their gaming floors.
