WMS is a leader in gaming machine design, and the company is always forging ahead of the competition. Over the holidays, the company was awarded a patent for its new video poker gaming concept which will offer up a new experience to gaming machine players.
On December 24th 2013, the United States Patent and Trademark Office provided WMS with a patent for a "multi-game video poker machine and system with asymmetrically accessible customization features." According to the patent’s abstract, the gaming device will consist of two gaming states, each of which will be associated with a specific LED display. Each one will display mood-producing colours that aim to increase gameplay.
The LED display will add a new layer to the gaming experience. The display may change according to the game’s state. For example, one particular colour may be associated with the base game while another could be associated with a bonus gaming state. Another use would differentiate between areas of a particular base or bonus game.
For example, a winning combination of symbols on three reels may be associated with the colour red – and there is potential for greater prizes to be won for different combinations of colours. Other uses for the LED include indicating the length of gameplay and wager amounts.
For example, the LED display may change colours to soothe the players’ eyes if they have been playing for an extended period of time or it may light up to indicate that the machine is ‘hot’. The patent claims that gaming machine design has been mundane. Over the years, there have been few advancements in the display of poker machines and other types of electronic games.
This new concept will offer up a dynamic new design for gaming machines in casinos, clubs and pubs.
