In the online gambling market, it is becoming increasingly important for operators to reach out to players using social media. Although playing casino games online has not always been the most social activity, more and more players are using networks like Facebook and Twitter to interact with brands and amongst themselves.
A new report has revealed which brands are doing it right, and have experienced success in social networking. Researchers at MECN have determined that Paddy Power and Pokerstars are the top ranking gambling operators on social networks. Betting operator Paddy Power has more than 1 million fans on Facebook, compared to the average betting operator’s following of 159 000 Facebook fans.
On Twitter, Paddy Power has 201 000 followers, compared to the average operator that has attracted just 40 700 to subscribe to their Tweets. “It’s great for our efforts across social media to be recognised by this independent report," says a spokesperson from Paddy Power. "Social media plays a vital role in helping us engage with our customers.
For us, it’s all about making sure we’re funny and topical so our fans and followers genuinely feel entertained rather than talked at.” The only area in which Paddy Power did not trump all other operators was on Youtube, where PowerStars reigned. The industry average for YouTube subscribers is 4200, and PokerStars has nearly 54 000.
The online poker operator has attracted tens of thousands of YouTube subscribers by posting exclusive content from tournaments. In the online gambling world, we are going to see more operators branching out into social networking. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat are great ways to interact with players, provide customer services and broadcast special offers.
If you’re signed up to an online casino, bookmaker or poker room, be sure to find them on your social network of choice to keep up with their latest news.
