MP Andrew Wilkie has lost hope that the pokie reform trial will ever happen. According to a recent report by Sky News, he is ‘heartbroken’, as the federal government continues to stall, pushing the implementation of the trial further and further away from fruition. He is under the impression that the trial will never happen, as the government has made yet another excuse to delay the process.

Julia Gillard has recently announced that the ACT trial for poker machine reform will not be carried out until it receives enough support in parliament. This is just the latest in a long line of excuses that the government has made, hoping to delay the pre-commitment trial for several more months. “'The government has never had its heart in this,” says Wilkie.

After several previous delays, it seemed as though the trial would begin in February 2013. However, this new revelation will push the trial back even further. Adding to the complications is the fact that gaming machine manufacturers will need at least a year to outfit the machines with the software necessary for the trial.
