This week, Crown Resorts announced its new partnership with BetEasy, an Australian sportsbetting operator. The two companies have trademarked a new name together: Crown Bet. While this is the first big publicising of the deal, it seems that it has been in the pipeline for quite a while. It has been stated that BetEasy head Matthew Tripp and James Packer have been in talks about starting a betting venture.
In fact, the company beat out a number of competitors for the contract with Crown Resorts. TabCorp and SportsBet both bid for the deal, but BetEasy won out. BetEasy has made quite a splash in the Australian gambling market recently. Tripp purchased the company for $10 million in March, and has helped to improve the brand.
Since then, BetEasy has signed on to a partnership with the AFL and is working towards an increase in revenue. However, the new Crown Bet has its work cut out for it. Last week, Betfred announced its departure from the Australian gambling market due to the country’s ‘oversaturated’ online betting market.
So, Crown Resorts may experience some difficulty in competing with more established online bookmakers like Paddy Power, TabCorp and Ladbrokes. On the other hand, Crown is a renowned name in the Australian gambling market. The company operators many casinos across the country, and it well-known by local punters.
Its long history in Australia could certainly work in its favour by attracting players away from international brands like William Hill. There is currently no word on what exactly Crown Resorts plans on doing with the new brand. It still remains to be see whether Crown Bet will offer online, land-based or mobile betting – or, all three.
Plenty of opportunities are available in the local market, and we are eager to see where Crown Bet heads. As the story develops on this new company, we will certainly keep you updated. So, stayed tuned.
