Introduction
Based on the hugely popular Rambo franchise starring Sylvester Stallone, this online pokies is a 5 reel, 3 row, 20 payline game from Stakelogic that’s sure to impress! Set somewhere deep in the jungle, join our hero as he battles villains and uses the special features available in the game to help you win.
The game features plenty of exciting bonus features to help you out in your quest to vanquish baddies with aspects such as Exploding and Expanding Wilds that trigger free respins and a free spins bonus round featuring Multiplier Wilds that let you really make the most out of any winning combinations. We’ll look at the bonus features of Rambo in more detail later in this pokies review.
To win Rambo, all you need to do is line up 3+ matching symbols along one of the 20 paylines starting on the leftmost reel. The Wild symbol is set on a box of dynamite and can substitute for any symbols except the cobra Scatter to help you land longer winning combinations.
There’s also a fun double-or-nothing gamble feature in Rambo that allows you to double or quadruple your winnings by correctly guessing either the colour or suit of a face-down card. You can win up to six times using this feature, but be careful, as one wrong guess will cause you to lose the lot!
If that’s not enough, as is the case with many Stakelogic free pokies, you’ll also have the chance to activate the Stakelogic Super Stake option to add Wilds and Scatter re-spins to the game. We’ll also discuss this in more detail later in this review.
Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack
Rambo has taken a cartoon-style approach to the graphics, with the reels set in an unknown jungle location that suits Rambo’s backstory. The symbols are very action-adventure with grenades, blood-splattered machetes, and other weapons. The most valuable symbol is Rambo himself, although for a branded poky he’s not overly recognisable as Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo, with a blue - not red - headband. Overall, the graphics are fairly generic and the soundtrack isn’t overly impressive either with a standard action-adventure genre melody being played over the spinning reels.
Rambo RTP & Volatility
Rambo offers a range of RTPs from 94.51% up to 96%, so it’s worth checking this when playing for real money. It’s a medium-high variance game.
How to Play Rambo
Rambo is a fairly straightforward poky when it comes to learning the controls, with the buttons found either side of the reels and your balance visible along the bottom.
1. To start, we always like to check the game’s paylines, paytable, and rules. You can find this information in Rambo by clicking the three lines in the top left-hand corner of the screen followed by the ‘I' icon.
2. Once you’re happy with the rules for Rambo, click on the poker chip beneath the info button to set your wager and/or activate the Super Stake option.
3. The button beneath the wager activates Turbo Mode to speed up gameplay.
4. In the bottom left-hand corner you’ll find the AutoSpin button. Click this to select the number of automatic spins you’d like to take place and any limits.
5. If you prefer a more hands-on gaming experience, you can use the large Spin button on the right-hand side of the reels to spin the reels once.
6. In the top right-hand corner of your screen you can quickly mute/unmute the sounds.
7. You can also adjust your bet and activate/deactivate Super Stake in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
Bet Sizes & Paytable
As a dynamic and action-filled poky, we expect a decent bet range. Ignoring the Super Stake option, you can place your wager in Rambo from 0.20 up to 25.00, or double these figures with Super Stake activated for the chance to hit extra special features on every spin.
The best prizes are available when you land five matching symbols along a payline. You can use a Wild to substitute for one or more of these symbols to make the top prizes more attainable. Excluding any Multipliers, the top prizes for each symbol are as follows:
Rambo: 2,500
Chest: 1,000
Grenade: 625
Arrows: 437.50
Machete: 312.50
A: 125
K: 100
Q: 75
J: 65.50
10: 50
The Wild symbol also pays out for matching combinations of 3+ along a payline starting on the leftmost reel, with the maximum prize for 5-of-a-kind set at 2,500.
Bonus Features
There are a few special features in Rambo that are worth mentioning. For simplicity, we’ve broken these down for you as follows:
Free Spins
The cobra is the Scatter symbol in Rambo awarding 10, 20, or 50 free spins for appearances of 3, 4, or 5 symbols respectively. The gameplay is basically the same in the free spins bonus as in the base game with the exception of random Multipliers being attached to the Wild symbols. The feature can be retriggered with the appearance of more Scatters and ends when no free spins remain.
Explosive Wilds
During the base and free spins feature, you may find some Explosive Wild symbols on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th reels. When one of these symbols lands on the reels they will explode to make the entire reel fully Wild (or filled with Multiplier Wilds if they land during the free spins round). This feature also triggers 3x free respins with the Wilds moving down one space with each re-spin until they all disappear from the reels.
Super Stake
Activating Super Stake Mode in Rambo doubles your wager per spin but also gives you extra chances to hit “insanely valuable winning combinations” with a higher chance for special features to trigger. These bonuses include extra Wilds, Explosive Wilds, and Scatters being added to the reels.
Conclusion
Overall, we did enjoy Rambo as a fun action-adventure poky with some exciting bonus features and an awesome theme. That said, we did feel that for a branded game it wasn’t particularly recognisable as the famous Rambo, and could have been any generic adventure poky with basic (albeit well-designed) symbols and a main character who’s even wearing the wrong colour bandana! However, with some decent rewards and good bonuses, we’d be happy to overlook the branding issue and would definitely play this one again.
