Cowboy's Gold Review
Take it back to the Wild Wild West and see if you can lasso yourself some worthy wins.
You can play for free in demo mode, and it’s a good idea to try it out in this way to get to know the ins and outs of the game.
Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack
So this is the Wild West. You’re not expecting anything fancy, are you? The overarching decorative theme is...wood. And more wood. And then a bit more wood. Card symbols fashioned from wood.. Wooden barrels. Saloon bars made out of wood. Nobody light a match! Really not sure those candles in the background are a good idea.
Well, this is interesting. The main soundtrack meanders along, fairly low key, as if chosen by Clint Eastwood himself. Lots of guitars, basically. Then as soon as you hit the Spin button….whoosh! Not only does the sleepy trundling soundtrack kick up a notch, but you’re treated to some zaps and bleeps that are nothing like those you’ll find in Sleepytown USA.

Cowboy's Gold Bonus Features
Renegade Master
There has to be a Renegade. When was the last time you watched a Western without one? He may saunter on to the fifth reel every now and then, and he can also ghost for the Bonus symbol.
Sheriff Badge
This mighty substitute is the game’s Wild Symbol, and it can stand in for other symbols to form new combinations - apart from the Renegade and Bonus symbols.
Money Collect
This feature does what it says on the tin. You collect money, but only if you manage to get the Renegade symbol on the fifth reel whilst at the same time lassoing yourself one or more Cowboys on the first four reels. Come on, this is the Wild West! There are no easy wins. Satisfy these rules, and then the numbers portrayed on the Cowboys present are totalled, and this determines the amount you can win. Each of the symbols may portray a value of up to 100x your total bet.
Free Spins Bonus
The laughing skull in a cowboy hat is the game’s Bonus Symbol. Now the ever present Free Spins round kicks in. Catch the Bonus symbol on reels 2, 3 and 4 and the game will slide you 10 free spins across the saloon bar. You’ll have to get your own bourbon. You can retrigger the free spins while you’re in the round. You’ll get five more free spins and a 2x multiplier. Next time you retrigger you’ll be given another five free spins with a 3x multiplier. You’re coming back again? Finally, you’ll get five free spins with a 5x multiplier. Retriggering the free spins that many times will not be easy, though - especially if you’re matching them with a bourbon each time.
So in total the saloon will permit a total of 25 free spins, and then your time’s up. Get back out there on that horse. The multipliers are also part of the Money Collect feature if you can trigger it during that feature.
Our Verdict
So there’s a lot of wood and a lot of cowboys. You’re going to need to persevere to get to the rewarding multipliers, but with a good RTP of 96.5% there’s hope. Saddle up and think Grand National - not a couple of furlongs.
If you’re not overly familiar with the Wild West, this isn’t really going to spoil your enjoyment. The Renegade and Money Collect features on offer here may just make this medium- to high-variance game worth a shot.
